Things I am doing during planning:

slowgraffiti:

Not planning.

But you should be planning. Specifically, planning when we are hanging out this weekend. Because make no mistake… We are totally hanging out. Jeremy lives with you. Surely he can share a little bit.

I am so frustrated with one of my students I don't know what to do.

slowgraffiti:

He is brand spanking new and has completely hijacked my class.

I think he is being such a jackass because he doesn’t know the material.

However, he won’t let me show him. Instead, he says I am scary and mean.

I refuse to give up on him.

(I will bookmark this page later to remind myself that I have said that.)

I refuse to give up on him.

(Even though the other teachers already have).

I refuse to give up on him.

(Though it would be really easy).

I refuse to give up on him.

It may kill me. But seriously. I won’t let that kid get his way.

This is why I am oh-so-proud of my best girl. She kicks ass.

The single best line in any movie ever of all time, the end.
(Yes. Even better than “You sly dog! You’ve got me monologuing!” and “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.” and “Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?”)

Spring 2010 Schedule (Tentative… Pending official schedule from LGBTRC.)
Got the classes I need to graduate. Just have to pass them now. (“Just.” You know. Like it will be easy.) Actually, I’m looking forward to the courses. I’m taking two actual classes in addition to the internship and independent study classes. Here’s a breakdown:

FCC: One of my two jobs. This is my job at the church. I work there 15 hours a week as the secretary. I’ve been working at the church since January 2006.
Xomba: My internship. slowgraffiti totally hooked me up with this one, and I love her for it. Xomba is a site where users can publish their own articles and make money off of the Adsense ads on each of them. The internship will be a lot of hands-on education about the business of the Internet and about marketing and self-branding and self-promotion.
LGBTRC: My other job at my university’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center. Been on the payroll since August. Tend to work about 8 hours as one of the Student Assistants there.
Research: The meeting time for my independent study program with my favorite professor. I’m working with her and with a friend and peer of mine on some academic research about the portrayal of women in editorial photos in celebrity news magazines. And the professor’s offering me co-authorship! Which, as an undergrad, is pretty awesome.
Design: The last class I need to finish my degree and graduate from this godforsaken university. It’s with that professor who used to hate me but who has slowly developed a vaguely cooperative relationship with me. I’m at least excited to learn more InDesign. I love practical classes like this, and I love doing print design.
Sci-Fi: I had to register for an elective because I have to at least register as a full-time student for insurance purposes. I think I may actually take this one, though. I could audit it, in theory, so that if I don’t have time to do the homework and all, it doesn’t hurt my GPA. It just sounds really interesting. It’s actually a Religion course called “Religious Imagination and Science Fiction,” and it’s going to examine science fiction and how the creators invent and establish these worlds and cultures and such in their stories.

All in all, it should be a challenging semester, and I should learn a lot about things that I’m actually interested, which will be refreshing. It’s just going to be very packed and very busy. I’m considering an intravenous caffeine treatment.
At least, if all goes well, this will be my last semester as an undergrad. God in heaven, make it so. And in the meantime… I’ve got to keep looking for grad schools. Yes, I’m doing this very late. I know. But… I can still look. Must not stress out. Must stay calm. Yes. Calm.
